.Mrs. Hubb.'ird was blind al birth, and her husband was nuide so previ¬ ous to their marriage Curiously enougli, they us<.' <llfferent systems of reading, and each reads a great deal, esijoclally the books that nre sent to them on tbe "round robin" plan from the blind schools. .Mrs. Hubbard is au adept at reading by tho raised let' ter system. Her husband uses a moro modem way of reading and one con¬ sidered b.v those who know It to be faster than the raised letter system. It Is a series of holes cut in the paper at Intervals They are located, from one to six, both above and below a standard line, designating a character. Reading occupies a great part of their time when they nre not at work doing one of the many <bores about tbe farm.
To the casual observer thc farm is uo different from the usual well ar¬ ranged farm In the community. It Is a noticeable fact that all of the ma¬ chinery and Implements used are kept in sheds and out of the way
Time was wben these two people were on the road all the time. Blind musicians with tbe ability they are able to show are in demand in the musical circles of thc country, and they found no trouble in getting all of tb<! engagemeuts they conld flll. received from the manufacturer. The Crlstman bill was signed only a week ago. A rush order was immediately placed for 40,000 motorcycle regis¬ tration plates. As soon as thefee are received they will be mailed to all registered motorcyclists, the plate number corresponding to the one on the card issued.
Hundreds of motorcyclists have al¬ ready registered with Secretary of State Hugo in compliance with the law, the summer-like weather of the past few days undoubtedly augment¬ ing the number. In requiring the registration ot motorcyclists. New York State has followed the action of 4 2 other states as a means of better¬ ing their individual highway eystems. The fee of $2.,50 charged bythis state is an average between the extremes of other states. Rhode Island has the lowest fee, one dollar, while Idaho and Kentucy charge the motor¬ cyclist as high as flve dollars a year.
Different states liave different ways of licensing the nu)torcycli6t. Wyo¬ ming does not itself rcipilre a regis¬ tration but gives cities authority to license machines owned and operated within tlieir limits. In i.be District ol' (Coliimhia. a license fee of two dollars is good as long as the machine is owned by tho party taking out the license. Texas and South Carolina liave county registration of rider.s.
The riirlstnian law delines a mo¬ torcycle as a vehicle of two wheels, one following the other, propelled by other tlian muscular power. Bicy¬ cles trith niotor attaclinient will nec¬ essarily have to be registered as com¬ ing under the new law.
