Classification Assures for Your
Ad, Automatically, the "Best Position**'in a Newspaper
The question of "preferred position" often bothers those who use clisplay aclvertising space—but it is solved automatically tor the classified advertiser
Properly speaking there is only one place in the paper for a classified advertisement. It finds that place when its proper classifica¬ tion has been allotted to it. To find it, then, becomes just the same sort of a task as finding a word in the dictionary, or a name in the directory.

LONG ISLAND TO ' RAISE BIG CROPS
Tile enthusiasm .stimulated by the efforts of the Long Island Food Ro- »crve Baltalion bas increased the area planted in potatoes un Lung Is¬ land this year not less than 50 per ceiit iSays the Kagle. There will ba over 3",1)00 acres planted in potatoes this season, and with au average yield there ¦should be a harvest o( 5.000,000 bushels. But such a yield implies tJiorough cultivjitlon from the start.
Kveryone Is urged to put in a big area of corn and beans and buck¬ wheat. There is ample time to pre¬ pare for these crops, and Uin.w; Isl¬ and soil and climate are well adapt¬ ed for their growth. The U)ng Isl¬ and Food Reserve Battalion has been offered over 2400 acres, much of ¦which has already been taken and much of which will be planted in corn.
Director Geneial Johnston has re¬ ported that the seven tractors donat- »h1 to the baltalion by .Mrs. Williatn K. Vanderhilt, Jr., and others,.are all at work—one at Islip, one at Med- ford one dt Huntington one at Hicks¬ ville one at Plandonic ,one at Farm¬ ingdale, one at M'"e8tbury and one at tjueens. under the dijeciion of Park Connnisaioner Weicr. and that gocKl results have heen accomplished by their use. Some of the tractors are being operated the entire twenty-four hours on three shiftd of eight hours, an8 turn up Bfteen acres per day. Mr. Johnston says that the young col¬ lege men who are working fhe ma¬ chines are very entJhusiaatic and de¬ voted to their work.
More than 2400 acres of land have heen tendered to the battalion, and arrangements have been made for the cultlvattOB of praettrally all of this land, either by adjoining farmers or by estate owners who have asumed the obligation tor planting and cuN tlvatinf the same. Tenders of land
i are being made daily, bnt there is (need for more land; and all real es- I late owners who have idle acreage tliat is capable of cultivation aro urged to tender il tor this use, with description of its location and the character ol .soil, by commiinicaiiug wilh the director general, .\. .-V, John¬ ston, at Farmingdale.
William K. Dick, of Islip, has se- ciii'<^d the tise of about 500 acrea of land iu the vicinity of Bayshore, which he is iiulling under cultiva¬ tion, with the a.ssstaiic.e of Director Johnston.
The great cry of the Long Island farmers is for more help. The ofii¬ cials of the Loug Island Food Rc- ser\e Battalion are making a great effort to help supply this need. They are asking the owners of big estates in Nassau and Suffolk Counties em¬ ploying from 50 to 400 men on the grounds .most of them expert farm¬ ers, to release nearly all of these men to assist the farmers in the cul¬ tivation of their crops. It is esti¬ mated that nol less than 2000 efflcient farm hands could be loaned the farm¬ ers this seasotj^ tn^t the big show places.
One group of over 1000 boya from Ihe Stuyvesant High Scluxil of Man¬ hattan bave offered their services for the work and with a short training they will ne able to do good work. Qtiite a large contingent from the Huntington High School will start (work at once. Other schools are pro¬ mising to send like contingents. .\ number of up-State boys have asked to come down on Ixing Island. Lewis & Valentine, of Roslyn landscape gar¬ deners have 500 men which they are considering putting wholly at the work of farming on Ix>ng Island. Ne¬ gotiations are being entered Into with several manufacturing plants .whero the greatest amount of work is being done In the winter, to free their em¬ ployees for ta^rm work tjhls summer. Some have agreed to do this.
