payer in the Farmingdale Library
District is expected to pay
the bills and not have his voice
respected.
Only the Library Board of
Trustees has the insight as to
what is good for you, the voter.
Great horizons can be opened
for a mere .374 per hundred
assessed valuation for Oyster
Bay residents and .61 for Babylon
homeowners. This increase
would not be required if the all-knowing
Trustees placed the interests
of the people uppermost
' in their toils instead of their
own self- interests.
The proposed cost of the increase
in the budget is said to be
approximately $ 1.50 per average
homeowner per year according to
a member of the Board. It is now
c om mon knowledge that the voters
have t w i c e rejected the
Trustees' budget. This $ 1.50 has
been settled by the voters twice.
If the issue is a mere $ 1.50,
then the Board can surely economize
to the extent of $ 1.50with-out
c u r t a i 1 ing services and
quality.
The issue in this third election
is whose will shall prevail;
the Board of Trustees or the
people. Have we in Farmingdale
forfeited, "... government of the
people, by the people, for the
people..."?
s/ Guy Morone
For many years, the Rotary
Club, the Kiwanis Club and other
groups in Farmingdale have supported
the activities of the Farmingdale
Youth Council, the Farmingdale
Library and the Farmingdale
School System. Many
community minded individuals
have worked diligently on many
occassions to help explain school
building expansion programs,
school budgets, etc.
I certainly hope that every
qualified voter from District # 22
will register and vote in favor
of the Library budget when it
is re- submitted to the voters
on August 29. Farmingdale has
an outstanding library system.
An extraneous issue, not re-budget,
must not
to be used as an
excuse to curtail the activities
of this fine community facility.
S. A. Albrecht
The Farmingdale Public Library
is a very good supplement
of our educational facilities and a
source of a wealth of information.
It is constantly developing
better recreational and leisure
time activities for our community.
To curtail its many s e r vices
by defeating a budget calling
for an increase of approximately
$ 1.50 a year for the average
homeowner is literally slamming
the door of information, inspiration,
and pleasure to many.
•' I intend to support the Farmingdale
Public Library Budget on
August 29th, and I urge all of you
to be fully aware of your responsibilities
to your children, yourselves,
and your community in
maintaining our fine public library
and its many needed services.
Dorothy A. Comolli
President of Northside PTA
Only if we have available the
full resources and service of our
library can we be assured that
we are getting the most for our
library taxes. Recreation opportunities
should include reading
and other cultural activities.
I strongly urge the taxpayers
to vote yes for the Library Budget
on Aug. 29.
Jack Goor
President of the Youth Council
I am issuing the following
statement in support of the Library
budget for the coming August
29th vote.
" I intend to vote in favor of
the Library budget and I hope
that every citizen of the district
will join me in this action. It is
unthinkable that the people of this
district be subjected to the restrictions
of services that would
result from failure to pass a Library
budget."
