Attend State Leagwe Gathering
The Sunrise Federal Savings and Loan Association
will be represented at the 1967 Convention
of the Savings Association League of New York
State by Chairman of the Board Arthur F. White
and, President C. William Kemmlein, it was announced
to the POST. Directors of the institution
who will also attend the gathering include CO.
Schmidt, Weldon E. Howitt, Halsey B. Knapp,
Willis B. Carman, J r . , W. E. Follett, and Norman
F. Sullivan. It will be held September 3- 7 in the
Greenbrier Hotel, White Sulphur Springs, W. Va0
Monetary, tax and economic I n s t i t u t i o n s and the Tax
developments affecting thrift and
home- financing institutions are
scheduled for discussion at the
business sessions. Highlights of
the program include an address
on " Living in a Changing Market
Environment," by John E.
Home, Chairman of the Federal
Home Loan Bank Board, and
speeches by the presidents of the
National League of Insured Savings
Associations and the United
States Savings and Loan League
— Rex G. Baker, Jr., president,
Southwestern Savings Association,
and Otto L. Preisler, president,
Home Federal Savings and
Loan Association, Chicago, r e spectively.
Sidney Homer, partner, Salomon
Brothers & Hutzler, New
York, will discuss the outlook
for interest rates, while Saul
B. Klaman, vice president and
chief economist, National Association
of Mutual Savings
Banks, will analyze the impact
of churning financial markets
on savings institutions.
Members of Congress and the
state legislature are represented
on the program. Rep. Jacob H.
Gilbert will speak on " Financial
Structure;" Rep. Abraham J.
Multer, on bank regulation and
insurance. Two New York
senators will also speak — Jeremiah
B. Bloom and Henry M.
Curran. Paul A. Schosberg,
administrative assistant to Rep.
Richard L. Ottinger, will outline
" A Fair Deal for the Housing
Industry."

Local Road
To Be Closed
Oyster Bay Town Supervisor
Michael N. Petito has proposed
the closing of Winding Road in Old
Bethpage to prevent use of the
road as a speedway by commercial
traffic coming from
nearby industrial areas. In r e sponse
to a series of complaints
from residents in the area, the
Supervisor has called for the
erection of a barrier across
the residential street at a point
between the south entrance to
the Old Bethpage Village Restoration
Park and Serpentine Lane.
Petito's plan has already r e ceived
the backing of the Nassau
County Police Traffic Bureau,
the County Planning Commission
and the Town Attorney's
Office.
In asking for Town Board approval,
Petito stated: " It has
been proved beyond the shadow
of doubt that Winding Road has
been used improperly as a speedway
by transient traffic in the
area. This has created a serious
danger to children living in the
area as well as to adults in
this strictly residential section.
