Howitt Students To Hear About Mrs. Thomas Hubbard
Pacification Program In Vietnam
Colonel Robert Hyatt, former
commanding officer of the 4th
Battalion, 9th Infantry ( Manchu),
25th Infantry Division, the military
group which the Vietnam
Assistance Committee of Farm-ingdale
Inc. adopted, will speak
to students in an assembly at
Weldon E. Howitt Junior High
School on Friday, November
17 at 9: 30 a. m. The program
was arranged by Weldon E. Howitt
eighth grade student, Michael
Klesh.
Hyatt will tell of his experiences
of fighting the war as
well as his unit's major emphasis
on pacification and working
with the people in Vietnam.
He will also show slides of these
events, VAC has been sending
materials from vitamins to lolly-pops
for the soldiers to give to the
South Vietnamese.
LTC Hyatt, US Army
graduated from the US Military
Academy in 1951. His tours of
duty have included the 6th Infantry
Regiment in Berlin, Germany,
the Army Language School
and Saudi Arabia, the 82nd
Airborne Division and the 25th
Infantry Division in Hawaii and in
Vietnam. In addition to the
language school he has graduated
from infantry branch courses at
Ft. Benning, Georgia and from the
US Army Command and General
Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth,
Kansas in 1966. He served briefly
with the 1st Cavalry Division
at Ankhe with Headquarters
MACV, in Saigon before assuming
command of the 4th Battalion,
9th Infantry ( MANCHU)
1st Brigade, 25th Infantry Division
in November 1966. He
returned from Vietnam in June
1967. He is married to the
former Charlene Dasher. COL
and Mrs. Hyatt and their five
children reside at 8707 Ventura
Lane, Annandale, Virginia. COL
Hyatt is presently serving in
the Office of the Deputy Chief
of Staff for Military Operations,
Department of Army, The Pentagon,
Washington, DC. COL
Hyatt's awards and decorations
include the Silver Star, the
Legion of Merit, the Air Medal,
the Vietnamese Gallantry Cross
with Silver Star, the Combat
Infantryman's Badge and the Senior
Parachutist Badge.
Hyatt is not a stranger to Long
Island. He wa s graduated from the
Great Neck High School in 1944.
Junior League Celebrates
Twenty Fifth Founders Day
Miss Elaine Marie Schwab,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert
F. Schwab of Lindsley Drive,
Morristown, New Jersey, became
the bride of Spec. 4 Thomas
Hubbard, USA, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Andre Hubbard of Merritt
Road, Farmingdale. The Rev.
Howard J. Schoenfeldtperformed
the ceremony in Grace Lutheran
Church, Livingston, followed by
a reception held at the Carriage
Trade, East Orange.
Mrs. Joseph Rogers was
matron of honor. Alan Hubbard
was his brother's best man.
The couple will reside in Glen
Burnie, Maryland, where the
groom is attached to Fort Meade.
The Junior League of the
Womens Club of Farmingdale
celebrated its 25th Founders Day
at St. Lukes hall last Thursday.
Mrs. James McDonagh, President,
presided and introduced
the guests from the Long Island
Federation of Womens Clubs,
Mrs. Francis Mulligan, Mrs. F.
William Manker, and Mrs. James
Muff, as well as officers from the
New York State Womens Club,
Mrs. Douglas Begeal, Mrs.
George Ballance, Mrs. Clarence
Hurst, Mrs. Hubert Bassett, Mrs.
Gustave Hackebeil, Mrs. Charles
Gulbrandsen and Mrs. Paul
Nooal.
Mrs. McDonagh also introduced
past presidents of Junior
League. Those present were:
Mrs. Alfred Seaman, Mrs. Frank
Manker, Mrs. Sebastian Al-brecht,
Miss Sara Howitt, Mrs.
Raymond Vandereedt, Mrs. John
Stanforth, Mrs. John Monaghan,
Mrs. Fred Rathgeber, Mrs. Harlow
Dunton, Mrs. Douglas Bepeal
and Mrs. Walter Finger.
Mrs. William Schwendler presented
to Mrs. McDonagh from
the Women's Club of Farmingdale
an engraved gavel.
Mrs. Frank Manker presented
a silver tray as a gift of Mrs. A.
Seaman, Mrs. F. Manker, Mrs.
W. Schwender, Mrs. C. Talgner
and Mi6s S. Howitt, all instrumental
in the founding of Junior
League here.
The program, introduced by
Mrs! Charles Finger, program
chairman, was " A Musical Skit"
directed by Mrs. George Hale and
Mrs. William Sullivan and performed
by members of the club.
Refreshments were served by
Mrs. Mrs. Howard Dare and her
committee.

Halloween Prank May Cost
Teenager An Eye
A Halloween prank may cost a
Farmingdale 16 year old boy an
eye.
A 15 year old juvenile, whose
name is being withheld, is alleged
to have squirted a substance from
an aerosal can into the eye of
Michael O'Carroll of 16 Barber
Drive. The incident took place
at Intervale Avenue and Orchard
Street, South Farmingdale.
Police stated that O'Carroll
has a 50- 50 chance of sight r e tention
in the left eye.
The juvenile offender is facing
Family Court on a delinquency
charge.
Village Board Holds Hearing
On Car Wash Operations
A public hearing was held at
Village Hall, Farmingdale, on
Monday, to amend the zoning ordinance
to permit car wash businesses
to operate in the village.
The proposed amendment calls
for meeting the zoning ordinance
and the area setbacks.
Village Clerk James McKenna
stated that the amendment was
initialed by village officials to
control the car wash business.
McKenna also told the
03SERVER that complaints from
apartment residents at 150Seca-togue
Avenue, were looked into
by the Fire Marshal's office and
that improvements were noted.
Residents had complained that
heat and hot water services were
interrupted periodically and that
the outside condition of the dwelling
was sub standard.
Village officials were also investigating
several complaints
regarding alleged violations at
Suburbia Apartments on Fulton
Street.

Jr League Plans
Santas Workshop
The Junior League of the
Women's Club of Farmingdale
will hold a " Santa's Workshop"
on Thursday, November 30, featuring
handmade articles to benefit
charities in time for holiday
gift buying.
Hobby horses, teddy bears,
Christmas decorations, homemade
preserves and baked goods
will be among the featured items,
which will be produced by members.
The workshop will be held
from 10 a. m. to 5 p. m. in the
Parish Hall of St. Thomas Episcopal
Church.
Parents of School District 22
pupils who recently received
Federal Aid Forms are urged by
school officials to complete and
return the forms as soon as
possible. The forms are submitted
to the Federal Government
for additional financial
aid to school areas where federal
installations - are located
within the School District.
According to a* school
official, two years ago, the Farmingdale
School District lost an
opportunity to receive $ 40,000.
from die Federal Government
because the District was short
12 Federal Aid applications.

There is a rumored possibility that Congressman James R.
Grover Jr. will receive an appointment for a judgeship. If this
happens Gilbert Hanse, who lost his recent bid for Suffolk County
Executive, will fill Grover's spot.

We understand that there may be quite a shake up of GOP leadership
in the Town of Babylon since Curcio was against taking any
Conservative Party help. It was only in Brookhaven Town where
the Republicans had Conservative backing and won. Recent GOP
Suffolk scandals spilled over in various ways in Suffolk voting.
Many Congressmen were very happy they didnt have to run this
year. Added to the mixed emotions about Vietnam, the general
disapproval of the high cost of living, the controversial Constitution,
no one was sure which way the voting would go.

Funny difference in talk after elections in contrast to before elections.
Take the Nassau County Budget GOP Sol Wachtler who is still
a Supervisor, is no longer talking about a 20% budget decrease.
As a matter of fact, Hempstead Presiding Supervisor Ralph G. Caso,
said that the Wachtler cut does not appear to be in the cards. Even
Eugene Nickerson, called for a seven cent cut, when just before the
election he had announced a possible slash of 12 cents. At the time,
the police budget had not been prepared, so the difference is in a pay
raise for policemen.
