Figure Skating Slated
For Town Rinks
The Oyster Bay Town Department
of Recreation and Community
Activities will hold a speed
and figure skating contest at the
three town rinks.
The contest, open to youngsters
6 to 17, will be held from
9: 30 a. m. to 12 noon Saturday,
February 11, at the ice rinks
of the Bethpage, Marjorie R.
Post Massapequa and Syosset-
Woodbury Community Parks. The
finals will be held at Syosset,
Saturday, February 18, 9: 30 a. m.
to 12 noon. ,
Participants will be permitted
to skate in the contest without
having to pay an admission fee.
Those interested in entering
the contest must fill out entry
forms available at the three community
parks. -
Awards will be presented to
winners.
Little League Registration
With the call for Little
League registration sounded, can
the umpire's cry Play Ball be
far behind?
The Massapequa American
Little League has sounded its
call for sign up time.... surely
the first sign of Spring.
Boys who want to play in the
hard- hitting, sure- fielding
American League can be registered
on Friday night, February
10, at Fairfield School between
7: 30 and 9: 30 p. m. Registration
is $ 3.50.
All boys who want to play,
must be enrolled on Friday, February
10.
To be eligible, a boy must be
8 years old by August 1, and
not older than 12 years by Aug. L
Youngsters do not have to accompany
parents to registration.

Double Win Ties Chiefs For First;
Dalers, Devils, Bisons Double Losers
The Massapequa High School
basketball team notched a pair
of league wins this past week
to tie for the league lead with
Calhoun.
The Chiefs posted a 79- 63 win
over Sewanhaka with Bob Bonte-mps
chalking up 19 points.
Coach Joe Mayers squad then
took the measure of a scrappy
East Meadow by a 65- 51 count
with Larry Flamia leading the
way with 21 points. The Jayvees
also eked out a 59- 58 win over
East Meadow to run their unbeaten
skein \ a 11- 0.
On Friday the Pequans take
on Baldwin in an away game
slated for 8 p. m., followed by
a Tuesday home game with
Oceanside at 4 P. M.
Farmingdale High dropped a
pair of league games this past
week, losing to Plainview 81- 52
and Hicksville 103- 74.
Coach Bob Mulligan's average
sized co - defending league
champs were in the game with
Plainview 21- 19 as the quarter
mark hit fell behind 42- 25 at
the half.
In the Hicksville encounter,
the Dalers trailed by 12 points,
51- 39 as the half hit dropped
out of sight 75- 55 after three
quarters.
The Dalers journey to Clarke
this Friday for a 8: 30 p. m. game
and on Tuesday will entertain
Syosset at home at 8: 30 p. m.
Coach Jerry Fiorenza's Plain-edge
High team dropped a pair
of hard fought games this past
week, losing to Hicksville 64- 53
and 85- 75 to Clarke
Jon Yudin led the Red Devils
with 15 points in both games.
Plainedge with a 1- 5 league
and 3- 8 overall record will take
on MacArthur this Friday in an
away game at 8 p. m. and Plain-view
at 8 p. m. on Tuesday in a
home game.
Berner High School broke a
nine game losing streak by beating
Kennedy High of Bellmore
76- 41 on Friday and then lost
to Hewlett on Tuesday by a 73-
64 count.
Nelson led the Bisons with
18 points in the Kennedy win
as Coach Chris Sweeney's lads
piled up leads of 22- 4 and 35-
17 in the first two quarters.
Theafanis and De Donato each
caged 15 points in the Hewlett
loss as the Bernerites trailed
18- 14 and 35- 29 for the first
two stanzas.
Berner has two away games
on tap this week with a Long
Beach game this Friday at 8
p. m. and a Uniondale encounter
on Tuesday at 4 p. m.
Shutouts, High Scores Mark
New Town Hotkey League Games
A bevy of shut- outs and some
high- scoring contests highlighted
the first week of play in the Oyster
Bay Town Hockey League
competition at Massapequa, Syosset
and Bethpage.
Charlie Millner, league commissioner,
said the leagues have
been divided into two divisions
at each community park, the
senior division for those 15 -
18 and the junior division for
those younsters 10 - 14.
Hockey is played on the three

Harlem Wizards in a Rotary
Club sponsored basketball game
on Sunday, March 5 at 2 p. m.
at Massapequa High School.
Other Jets will include Bill
Mathis, Ray Abruzzesse, and

3- 0; the Red Wings belted the
Black Hawks, 8- 2; the Rangers
slammed the Falcons, 10- 2; the
Blades shut- out the Americans,
2- 0 and the Maple Leafs and
Bruins tied, 2- 2.
The Junior Division saw the
Victorias edge the Rockets, 4- 1;
the Ducks nip the Knights, 4- 2;
the Comets blast the Victorias,
8- 1; the Jets zip the Mustangs,
6- 0; and the Eagles white- washed
the Metros, 8- 0.
To Begin Young Boatmen Course
Education Officer Art Greenspan
of Flotilla 13- 8, United
States Coast Guard Auxiliary,
Seaford, stated that the New York
State Department of Education
had recently approved the Young
Boatman's Course, prepared by
the State Conservation Department.
He went on to state that
he will conduct this course at
the Robert E. Picken School,
Plainedge. Greenspan is a full-time
faculty member of the
school.
Last year Flotilla 13- 8 conducted
two Young Boatman's
Courses in the Seaford Public
Schools with a total enrollment
of 138.
School Board To Meet Thursday
The next regular monthly business
meeting of the Massapequa
Board of Education will be held
at 8: 30 p. m. in the Auditorium
at the Massapequa High School
on Thursday February 9.
