Many Dog Owners

Keefe this week urged dog owners
to get their applications for 1967
licenses in to designated Town
offices because many are now
delinquent. The premilinary dog
census indicated there are more
than 26,000 dogs in Town licensing
areas and only 5,211 were
licensed on or before the deadline,
which was January 1st. Applications
may be made, with the
required fee, in person or by
mail to O'Keefe's office in Town
Hall, Oyster Bay ( 11771) or the
Hicksville Town office, 65 Broadway
( 11801).
Libory To Honor Breitenstein
The Massapequa Public Library
will open its Bar Harbour
building this Sunday afternoon
between three and five for an
" open house" reception honoring
Mr. Bradley Breitenstein, the
newly appointed Library Director.
Mr. Breitenstein took charge
of the local library system last
month following eleven years as
the director of the Olean, New
York, Public Library. One of his
first projects as the new director
here was to survey the Massapequa
system to learn everything
about what it is and what it has
been.
The public is cordially invited
to the reception this Sunday, January
15, 3: 00 to 5: 00 p. m. at the
Bar Harbour Library, to meet
Mr. Breitenstein, members of
the Library Board of Trustees
and library staff members. A
large number of community leaders
and Friends of the Massapequa
Public Library are expected
to attend the open house where
refreshments will be served
through the afternoon.
Police Provide Accident Victims With Information
Nassau Police Commissioner
Francis B. Looney announced
that county police will provide
highway accident victims with
copies of town ordinances covering
tow car operation.
The printed information will
include the maximum rates permitted
under the town laws.
The printed information is intended
for those drivers whose
cars are inoperable after an
accident* and will contain a list
of licensed operators.

The new year has ushered in
a new recreation program to the
Plainedge District. The program,
scheduled to begin January 31,
will include a Friday night program
for 10- 12 grade students,
a summer recreation program
and other activities, to be announced
later.
The Plainedge Debate Club will
present a program on sex education
for the Eastplain School
PTA on February 14. This will
mark another first for the club
which also had an election day
assembly with local candidates
earlier this year... The Yorker
Club, under the direction of Miss
Patricia Pace, will sponsor a
dance in February. Hope it's as
successful as the French Club
dance... February will also be
important to the case of the
senior play. " How to Succeed in
Business Without Really Trying"
will be presented the weekend of
February 18. Everybody is really
looking forward to seeing another
of director Mr. Gerald Kirby's
" effervescent bubbles"... January

Concert Choir and folk-singing
group, " The Plainfolk"
during a special assembly...
Sports Night will soon be here.
This event was started last year
when the Class of ' 67 challenged
the sophs and seniors to athletic
competition. This year the G. O.
will sponsor mis activity since
it involves all the classes in the
school... February 10 members
of New York City's Lincoln Repertoire
Center will present a
special dramatic assembly at
Plainedge... Last but not least,
mid terms will be given Jan. 22-

Petito Gives Reasons To
Use Hicksville facility
Residents of Oyster Bay Township
have a convenient Town Hall
Annex in Hicksville, but many
of them are not availing themselves
of die facilities, Supervisor
Michael N. Petito declared
today. The annex, located on
Broadway just south of the Long
Island Railroad tracks, has a
long list of services that make
Town government much closer
to die many residents of the
Central and Southern portions
of the Township. While registering
his pet dog " Rebel" at the
Annex, Petito noted mat many
more persons are expected to
use die Hicksville branch after
learning of die facilities which

For Some Taxpayers
Monday, January 16, is the due
date for the final payment of 1966
estimated Federal income tax,
according to Charles A. Church,
Brooklyn District Director of
Internal Revenue which services
Long Island.
An amended declaration of 1966
estimated income tax may be r e quired
by January 16, 1967, from
taxpayers who have had changes
in income or exemptions during
the last quarter of. 1966 that cause
substantial increase or decrease
in income tax. The amended
declaration form printed on the
notice of installment received
by taxpayers may be used to
amend the original estimate
or Form 1040ES ( amended) may
be obtained from any IRS district
office.
An original declaration of 1966
estimated tax should be filed by
January 16, 1967, on Form
1040ES by taxpayers who just
became liable for filing an estimate
during the fourth quarter.
Payment of the last installment,
amended declaration or
original declaration which would
otherwise be due on January 16,
1967, need not be filed if the
taxpayer files his 1966 income
tax return, Form 1040, and pays
* n full the balance of tax due on
< r before January 31, 1967.
Due dates are different for
farmers and commercial fishermen.

which must be obtained at the
Town Clerk's main office in Town
Hall, Oyster Bay.
The Annex's other handy services

the Building Department which
includes Zoning maps or conferences
with die representative
of die Department and a Veteran's
Service Officer widi all
information for former or present
servicemen.
Also, die Department of Commerce
and Industry, a branch
of die Federal Housing Authority,
the Lighting Department and
a representative of die State
Unemployment Service. Petito
also added diat old records are
stored at the Annex and in May,
for one month, a representative
of the County Assessor's office
is available for consultation. The
Supervisor expressed hope diat
Town homeowners wishing to
transact business would save
themselves time and travel by
using the Town Hall Annex, at
65 Broadway, Hicksville.

Softones Win First
In Talent Search
The Softones, a five piece combo,
won first prize in the junior
combo competition of Our Lady
of Lourdes R. C. Church CYO.
They are: John Gianfalla on
trumpet; Scott Streader on Tenor
Sax, Anthony Lconi on Lead guitar
and Joe Falbi on rhythm
guitar and Paul Conti on drums.
They range in age from 11 to
14. The group played Ebb- Tide
and Brazil in the tradition of the
Big Bands of the 1940' s. A 27"
trophy was presented to the group
by the Rev. Charles Mockevicius.
Judges for the talent show
were: Vincent Mure, Director of
me musical ' Holiday Cruise',
Verna Pal umbo, former member
of various opera companies; and
Lou DePiro, composer, lyricist
and author of Holiday Cruise and
Holiday for Linda.
Muhlenberg College Choir
To Appear Af St. David's
The 60 voice Muhlenberg College
Choir of Allentown, Pennsylvania,
will present a Concert
of Sacred Music on Friday, January
20, at 8: 30 p. m., at St.
David's Lutheran Church, 20
Clark Boulevard, Massapequa
Park.
The choir will be directed by
Ludwig Lenel, nationally known
composer and organist, who now
heads the Muhlenberg Music Department.
Lenel studied in Cologne,
Germany and Basil, Switzerland,
before continuing his education
at Oberlin Conservatory
from which he received his Master
of Music Degree.
Soroptimists Announce Essay Contest
The Soroptimist Club of East
Nassau announced this week a
Citizenship Award essay for any
member of a graduating class.
Local prizes include $ 100, first
prize; $ 50, second prize. The
national prize is $ 2,500.
