Opposition Grows
The Massapequa Park Civics
Party this week announced their
opposition to the referendum
scheduled for Saturday, April 29.
Chairman John Dalton stated
that the group was unanimous in
the decision.
He released a draft of a letter
that is expected to be distributed
to homes in the Village advocating
a " no** vote on the issues.
The letter pointed out that this is
strictly a Party action.
One of the planks of the Civics
Party platform prior to the March
village election, was a program of
recreation « * withoutbankruptcy".
Party nominees elected to office
on March 21st were Mayor
Andrew A. Senese, Trustees Morr
i s Kolker and Francis G. King.
The referendum concerns the
acquisition of 11.3 acres of land
in Bar Harbour at a cost of over
$ 400,000 without any consideration
towards development,
maintenance or operation. The
other proposal to develop a
10 acre portion of 25 acres in
the Mansfield Park at an estimated
$ 475,000 would bring the
total cost to approximately $ 1.5
million dollars.
This week also the Executive
Board of The Greater Bar Harbour
Trustee Association has
taken a position urging all Village
residents to vote against
both recreation propositions # 1
and # 2 at the forthcoming April
29th referendum.
The group has taken a position
that ' prohibitive tax increase
that would result by the
Village attempting to establish
its own program as opposed to
cooperating with the Town of
Oyster Bay in their proposed
consolidation of all Town recreation
facilities. We believe this
is a far more realistic solution in
providing maximum recreation
for all residents at the most reasonable
cost.'
