Organization Growing
The Vietnam Assistance Committee of Farming-dale
is growing. The largest group so far met last
Monday evening to discuss ways to raise money to
send packages to the 680 adopted service men and
for their ' Operation Helping Hand* program.
The packages which Farmingdale residents will
send to the Vietnamese people is a person- to-person
kind of thing. The program ' Operation
Helping Hand* which the battalion adopted by
Farmingdalers will make their job so much easier
in that war- torn area.
Regular Letters from the Commanding Officer
are indeed heart warming. Because of the rather
expensive costs incurred in the mailing of many
packages, the group has decided to hold ' an Operation
Helping Hand' benefit dance on Saturday,
April 1 at the Sons of Italy Hall, North Massapequa.
The Kiwanis Club of Farmingdale has shown its*
leadership by being the first to lend assistance.
The Rotary, and Lions clubs and B'nai B'rith
should follow suit.
Hope
From what we hear the Town of Oyster Bay will
purchase the 16 acre parcel on Motor Avenue and
Heisser Lane for future recreational use. The plot
is one of the best located sites in greater Farming-dale.
We hope that this is true. The Marjorie R. Post
Community Park and the Bethpage Community Park
are prime examples of what the Town is capable of
doing. Farmingdale should not be shortchanged.
More Names Of Local
Servicemen In Vietnam
Names of more Farmingdale
servicemen who are stationed in
Vietnam to be added to the list
published last week.
Letters and packages are welcomed
by these young men, according
to the Corporal George

Veterans of Foreign Wars.

LETTERS
TO THE EDITOR
Dear Editor:
Six months ago I asked community
organizations to join the
County government in an anti-litter
drive to improve the appearance
of Nassau County. I
named Matthew J. Cronin, head
of the Office of Mobilization for
Democracy, as coordinator of the
campaign.
With the beginning of the new
year, I should like to thank the following
organizations from Farmingdale:
the Farmingdale Civic
Association, Kiwanis Club,
Farmingdale Youth Council, and
the Rotary Club; from Plainedge,
the Kiwanis Club. Their cooperation
has done much to assure
success of our efforts. All told,
227 organizations a re foil owing up
on hundreds of complaints addressed
to the Office of Mobilization
for Democracy. Most of
the complaints involve private
property, and we have found that
a request for cooperation from
organizations in the community
where the property is located has
been most effective.
Organizations not yet participating
are asked to contact the
Office of Mobilization for Democracy,
at PI 2- 2401.
If any of your readers wish to
report unsightly conditions, they
are invited to call the same number.
Eugene H. Nickerson
Nassau County Executive
Dear Editor:
This is an urgent plea to Nassau
residents to continue their
support of our community health
programs. We need the help of
all of our friends, because our
current Christmas Seal appeal in
Nassau County is short $ 21,600.
of the $ 200,000. needed for vital
services in 1967.
The Christmas Seal Association
is actively engaged in the
fight against air pollution, since
present medical evidence strongly
suggests that cleaning up the
air can reduce the amount of
chronic respiratory disease. Our
educational, research, and community
service activities depend
. entirely on contributors like your
readers. We have no other source
of income.
Those who have not answered
their Christmas Seal letter, won't
you do so today? It's not too late
to have a share in making Nassau
County a healthier place to live.
Frances B. Cox
Christmas Seal Chairman

Questions and Answers
Q - Do I add the 6 percent
tax surcharge mentioned by the
President in his State of the Union
address to what I owe on this
year's return?
A - No, the surcharge must
be approved by Congress before
it becomes law.
Q - 1 started work on my ' 66
tax return and find the new withholding
rates have left me greatly
overpaid. Is there anything I can
do to reduce my withholding?

with large itemized deductions.
These allowances take

Supreme Court Justice Howard T. Hogan of Farmingdale stated
at the Bench and Bar Night at the Massapequa Elks on Monday, that
the courts had done more to develop and expand law than the Legislature.
They have created a spirit of reformation rather than retribution.
This may have led to increased lawlessness.
District Court Judge Willis B. Carman was also present.
A Massapequa Park soldier stationed in Vietnam made an appeal
for used refrigerators. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Salvatore Giunta
of 72 Linden Street have already received a lot of offers. Getting
the refrigerators to Vietnam is the big problem. Efforts are being
made to find a manufacturer or an airline who might be willing to
offer a solution. Actually small office units would be the most practical.
If you have any ideas contact his father at home at LI 1-

Nassau Republicans will hold their Annual Victory Reception
on Lincoln's Birthday, February 12, in the Garden City Hotel.
State Senator Edward J. Speno, Chairman of the Nassau County
Republican Committee, has appointed Assemblyman. Joseph M. Mar -
giotta as chairman of the affair. Governor John A. Love of Colorado
will attend the reception. He has just been re- elected to his
second term as the Governor of Colorado.
At least three National Football League officials make their home
in Massapequa Park. Mark C. Duncan of 113 Grand Boulevard is
the Supervisor of NFL officials. Duncan succeeded the well- known
former Coach of Notre Dame University, Joe Kuharicn. Kuharich
is now coach and general manager of the Philadelphia Eagles.
Prior to his present job, Duncan was defensive coach of the San
Francisco 49' ers.
Two former sportswriters for the Associated Press also held
important posts for the NFL. Jim L. Kensil of 1087 Lake Shore
Drive, has been director of public relations for the league for the
past six years. Don. L. Weiss of 416 Charles Avenue holds down
the job of director of information for the league. All three were
not only deeply involved in the recent Super Bowl game, but must
know what's going on in each of the NFL football games played.
It doesn't make any difference if you have a 1966 or 1967 car, it
must be inspected in order to get it registered in New York State.

George Weisbrod of Massapequa Park was the artist who made that
outstanding plaque of the official seal of the Incorporated Village of
Massapequa Park that was presented by the Massapequa Park Lions
Club to the Village. The plaque now hangs behind the Mayor's chair
in the main meeting room at Village Hall. Weisbrod will head up
the Decorations Committee of the Operation Helping Hand Dance to
be given by the Vietnam Assistance Committee of Farmingdale on
Saturday, April 1 at Sons of Italy Hall. The decorations will have
an oriental theme.

Infantry of the 25th Division in
Vietnam, a group of 680 men
which Farmingdale has adopted.
In addition, the club donated boxes
of soap which will be sent
to the men to turn over to die
Vietnamese people in dieir program

payer's income and deductions
as reported on 1966 tax returns
as well as income and deductions
expected for 1967.
Procedures for claiming these
allowances are outlined on Schedule
A ( Form W- 4) available at
local IRS offices. This schedule
and a corrected W- 4 must be
filed with the taxpayer's employer
who will make necessary with- r
holding adjustments. These allowances
cannot be claimed until
you file your 1966 return.
Q - I just turned 65. Will my
boss stop withholding Social
Security taxes from my pay if
I go on working?
A - The law requires the employer
to withhold Social Security
taxes on the first $ 6,600 in wages
paid each employee during the
year. The age of the employee
does not change this requirement.
Q - I support my daughter who
was recently divorced. Can I
claim her baby as a dependent?
A - You probably can if you
provide more than half the baby's
support. Check the dependency
requirements listed on page 4 of
the 1040 instruction booklet.
