Berner, Dalers Win In Rain

Berner High School romped to
a convincing 2 5 - 0 victory over
Freeport last Saturday to run
their winning skein to 14 straight,
The Bisons, who are deadlocked
with Kennedy of Bellmore
at 3- 0 in South Shore Division
II league action, allowed the
Freeporters a total of six yards
rushing during the first half while
building up a 12- 0 lead. Halfback

Coach Don Snyder's Farming-dale
High team broke a 14- 14
deadlock in the final four minutes
to pull out a 21- 14 decision
over Clarke with Bob Watts scoring
on a 54 yard pass play from
Steve Moltisanti. Watts also
garnered a second score earlier
on a 20 yard aerial from Moltisanti
who also tallied from six
yards out.
The Dalers will entertain Sy-osset
at home this Saturday at
1: 30 p. m.
Plainedge High played their
game with Herricks on Monday
of this week due to last Satur—.
day's rain and found the going
tough as they were blanked 27-
0 by an air- minded Herricks
eleven. The winners scored
three of their four touchdowns on
passes and lead at halftime 15- 0.
A non league game is scheduled
at Patchogue this Friday at 8: 00
p. m.
The Massapequa High- Lawrence
Saturday game was cancelled
due to rain and will be
rescheduled for later in the season.

The St. Rose of Lima « C »
team lost to St. Ann's of Floral
Park last Sunday by a 15- 0 score
at Massapequa Hieh School held.
The game was original,
scheduled for last Saturday.
The team will play host to
St. Ignatius of Hicksville this
Sunday at 2: 30 p. m.
The St. Rose varsity will play
St. Joseph's away this Sunday
at 2 p. m. while the Jay Vees
will take on Holy Family at
home at 1: 00 p. m.
Town- School Recreation
Programs Move Into Gear
The Qyster Bay Town school
district recreation aid program
will move into high gear during
the next several weeks. Majority
leader Ralph J. Marino announced
this week.
Marino said each of the 11
school districts within the town
is participating in one of several
recreation aid plans with the
Plainedge Syosset and Jericho
school districts having active
town- administered after- school
recreation programs with the
use of existing school recreation
facilities.
The Massapequa and Bethpage
school districts are participating
in a matching aid program
which provides for reimbursement
up to $ 3200 when a school
district shows expenditures for
recreation after school totalling
$ 6400. The funds are usually
used to develop after- school recreation
programs or expand existing
ones.
Six school districts are involved
in the direct aidprogram.
This program offers the school
district either $ 7500 or $ 15,000,
depending on the school's population
or whether or not they are
serviced by a town community
park. The funds must be utilized
to expand existing after-school
programs or initiate new
onces.
Under the joint program, the
town provides the administrative
and professional staff and supplies
the equipment necessary for
a diversified recreation program.
The school districts,
Plainedge, Syosset and Jericho,
make the necessary facilities
available.
Programs for teenagers are
held at Packard and Southedge
Schools in Plainedge, every F r i day
starting 7: 30 p. m. to 9: 30
p. m. at the Northedge andPicken
Schools on Mondays from 3: 30 to
5: 30 p. m. for grades 3 and 4
grades 5 and 6 on Wednesday and
Fridays.
Also for grades 9- 12 at
Packard and Southedge Schools
and Plainedge High School on Saturdays
from 9 a. m. to 12 noon.
Stars To Make Guest Appearance
The Oyster Bay Town Department
of Recreation and Community
Activities will sponsor
its third annual face- off night
Nove'mber 1, at 8 p. m. at the
Bethpage High School auditorium.
Face- off night is free, to all
players in the town hockey program,
thei r parents and friends
and will feature guest appearances
by New York Rangers Reg
Fleming and Ed Giacomin discussing
the finer points of hockey.
As a special feature a full-length
film on last year's National
Hockey league Stanley Cup
play- offs will be shown.

Eagles Romp To League Lead;
Seniors, Jay Vees, Pee Wees Score Wins
The Eagles, with a 33- 0 victory
over the Lions, swept into
first place in the Massapequa
Mustangs 11- 12 Town League as
rain shortened the weekend
schedule of games.
The Lions had held the edge
by a point in the 11- 12 league
standings, but were dropped into
a second place tie by the loss
to the Eagles. Frank Prine led
the Eagles to victory on
two scoring runs of 25 and 35
yards. Kevin Finlay went 40
yards with a pass interception.
Tom Carey ran 40 to pay dirt
and Dave Burke went in from 28
yards.
In other league games, the
Bears whipped the Dolphins,
27- 0, and the Redskins and Falcons
played to a 6- 6 tie. The
Bears goals were made by Gary
Pieper, who ran 75 yards, Ron
Spero, Tim McCarville and Nick
vjarrone.
For the Redkins, Greg Knight
tied the game in the final quarter
on a 75 yard punt return. For
the Falcons, the score came in
the first quarter on a 20- yard
pass play, Pat McCann to Eddie
McGrath. Louis Amico and Steve
Sperin were defensive starts.
Meanwhile, the travelling Mustang
teams went three- for- three
as the Seniors trounced Syosset,
44- 8, the Jayvees beat Franklin
Square, 7- 0, and the Pee Wees
edged Valley Stream, 12- 7.
The Senior victory was paced
again by Tom Cheslak, who
scored a pair of goals on passes
from Pat Pizzarelli and Rich
Horner. Other scores were
chalked up by Dennis DeMeo,
Bill Wenzel, Tom Mutz and Bob
Massey. DeMeo and Joe Delemo
were defensive standouts.
The Jayvee team of 11- year-olds
bested a stubborn Franklin
Square club on seven points
scored by Jimmy Dalton. He
scored in the first quarter on a
15 yard run.
The Pee Wee game was a t h r i l ler
with the Massapequa club
coming back in the second half
after trailing 7- 6. The Mustang
scores were made by Kevin Collins
