Spotlight On Summer Theatre on Long Island
Mineola Theatre
THE ONLY GAME IN TOWN,
which was describedby one critic
as, " the only play in town. . . go
see it," will be presented at the
Mineola Playhouse under the aus-picies
of the Theatre Society of
Long Island, for one week only beginning
August 27 and running
through September 1. This frothy
little sex comedy, was written
by Pulitizer Prize winner, Frank
D. Gilroy, and will star Barry
Nelson, Julie Newmar, and James
Karen.
20th Century is excited enough
about the Gilroy plot to give it the
*% lg star" treatment when they
begin filming THE ONLY GAME
IN TOWN in September starring
Frank Sinatra and Elizabeth Taylor.
Las Vegas, better known as
" gambler's land," sets the scene
for this popular, truthful, and
sometimes touching comedy. The
story, itself, revolves around a
showgirl who is dancing in the
chorus line of a night club on the
Strip; her boy friend, a piano
player, who thumps out his job
in one of the downtown joints;
and a rich, married, San Francisco
tycoon, whose mistress the
girl has been. Commenting on the
play, author, Frank Gilroy said,
" It's about two people who drift
into love and commitment in Las
Vegas." Broadway critics called
it, " A tingling triangle in the invigorating
atmosphere of sun,
sand and sin."
Immediately following THE
ONLY GAME IN TOWN, will be
Woody Allen's explosively funny,
cascade of looney merriment,
DONT DRINK THE WATER,
starring Sam Levene and Mar-jorie
Lord. DONT DRINK THE
WATER, which happily convulsed
Broadway audiences for 18
mDirths, will run at the Mineola
Playhouse from September 3 thru
September 22.
The Mineola Playhouse, now on
vacation, will remain closed
through August 26. However, for
theatre- goers' convenience, the
Playhouse, box office remains
open Monday thru Saturday, from
10 A. M. to 6 P. M.

Dance to Name Bands at RMera
Bernie Mann, the leader of
the All American Bartd who happens
to double as the co- owner
and host of the Riviera in Man-hasset
Bay, Port Washington,
Long Island, now considers himself
a talent scout of no small
proportions.
A few weeks back, Mann
brought a young vocalist in named
Q. Williams. He was intrigued
with the unusual phrasing and
vocal timbre that Williams projected.
With recording dates
looming for the All American
Band in the fall, Mann made the
decision that he needed an unusual
male singing star with the
band, and so an arrangement
with Williams was consummated.
On August2, Williams made his
debut at the Riviera. In the
parlance of show business he sang
up a storm. His natural beat
pulsated through the large room,
and by the time he had finished
his second song, he had garnered
rapt attention at each and every*
table.
This week Bernie and Michey
Mann, the brother team who run
the Riviera, have rewarded Williams
with a weekend in the spotlight.
The All American Band
plays for dancing Friday evening,
August 23rd and Saturday evening,
August 24th. Both nights
Williams will be belting out his
own brand of extraordinary vocal
calisthenics.
Complete dinners range from
$ 5.00 to $ 7.50. Those who wish
to come for listening and dancing
only are required to pay a small
music charge of $ 2.00 on Friday
nights and $ 3.00 on Saturday
nights.

simpler era and encourage boys
and girls to make things with
