Allen Not To Dissolve
Wyandanch Now
( Continued from Page I)
Alleys office had previously cited the lack of
provision in the law for protection of Wyandanch
teachers on such matters of tenure and the problems
of the distribution of the assets and bonded
indebtedness in the districts in the proposed merger.
State law also prohibits the annexation of
schools to central school districts, of which Half
Hollow Hills is one.
Besides the Half Hollow Hills district, which
is 98.6 per cent white, others involved in the
proposal are Deer Park, North Babylon, West
Babylon and Farmingdale.
The inadequacies in the Wyandanch system
were cited by Allen. They had previously been
utlined in a report issued last year by the State
Cooperative Review Service.
The report cited community apathy; inadequate
teaching, etc.
Allen directed Dr. Gorton A. Wheaton, Superintendent
of Suffolk's Third Supervisory District,
to work with the surrounding districts for short-term
and long- range solutions to the Wyandanch
problems.
Wheaton has already formed a council of the
five affected districts to study ways of cooperation
with Wyandanch.
