Jn two raspfl silver medals were awarded; In twenty-one cases bronzo m^'daln. Five of the heroes lost their Uvea, and to the dependents of three bf theae penalona aggrsgatirlK $1,920 a ¦ year were grant<Hl; to tho dopendfnts of one of theae and of one other, who loat tholr lives, the sum of $2,500 was granted to b«» applied as the Commte- sion nruiy sanction.
In a<ldition to theso money grants in'- nine cases awards aggregating $14,400 wore appropriated for educa¬ tional i)urpo«>s, payments to be made as needed and approved, and In six caaea awards aggregating $S,.'>00 wero mude for other worthy purposes. Pay¬ ments in the ono-sum cases will not bo made until the beneflclarios' plans for the use of the awards have, been approved by the Commission.

Cook swam 225 foet to him, reaching him as he was sinking for .the fourth time. Cook took hold of Wonder and as he drew him to the surface Wunder graaped Cook's leg. Cook ^ibmerged Wunder to free hlmaelf, supported him for a minute 6r two and then swam ten feet with hhn to a rowboat, which had been brought from the bank.

Lawrence Sullivan, both aged flfteen, factory hands, from dro'svning. Fall River, Mass., January 19, 1919. Ethier and Sullivan broke through thin ice while walking on Cook Pond, two hundrod and ninety feet from the bank, where the water was twenty feot deep. Elhier broke about ten feet of ice In his efforts to climb out. A boy atarted to the hole with a pole but became frightened bo- fore he reached the hole, and Ryan took the pole and from a point flvo feet from the edge of the hole extended It to Ethier. Ethier graaped the polo and waa drawn up on the Ice. Ryan then went closer to the hole and ex¬ tended the pole to Sullivan, but before he could grasp It the ice broke under Ryan and he aank under the aurface. He rose and swam to the edge of the hole. Siflllvan sank and waa drowned. Ryan's gloved handa froze to the Ice and after being In the hole for twenty- five minutea a man arrived with a rope, whicJi he flung to Ryan. Ryan's hands were ao numb that he woa un¬ able to take hold of the rope, and ho seized it between hia teeth and waa Irawn out of the hole. He waa ex¬ hausted and could not atand and was dragged aome distance over the ice and aaaistod to the bank.
