Rpeakinsr of the County Tuborculosi.s j cvpning he, in company with a rwirty of
Ho.spital at Pliiinview, Mr. Smith naiU that the demand upon the institution haa mado extension imperative, and that bonds had juat been sold for tho erection of additional buildings. This Institution is under a board of manag¬ ers, of which (tooigo I.. Huljbci of dar¬ den City la chairman..
Explains Town HaU Costs
The .supervisor explained at some length the building and co.st of tho new Town Hull, telling of the excellent con- .struction, nnd declared tho coKt, $1S2,S36.82, wa.s, hc believed, very rcan- onabiy for the type and quality of build¬ ing and furnishings. Ho aroused much unthusiaijm when he declared the Board of Supervl.sors had just taken over Front .street as a county road, and thnt ' at lea.st two blocks of it would ho paved this year.
Speaking of the work at the Town Home for Aged and InHrni, Mr. Smith fiald it. was tho X)Urpose of the Town Board to havo an institution that was as far romovod as possiliie from tho old time poor houso, so that the aged nnd infirm would have no more com¬ punction about going there than Ihe aged soldier has at going to the sol¬ dier's home, dr the .sailor to the Sailor's Snug Harbor, or the Ma.sons or Odd Fellows, to homes ^aintai^gjj^ j^^ U^se organizations.
The supervi.sor'a talk was heartily applauded at the clo.so.
Mosquito Extermination Work
Mr. DeMott then spoke on the Mos¬ quito extermination work, showing nu¬ merous slides illustrating tho breeding places of tho pests, both inland and in the salt marshes. Vlew.s of the drain- ago system on tho .south side wore also shown. Mr. DeMott explained how the pestB breed and develop, and urged the Importance ot preventing water from 'standing until it becomes stagnant. Tho salt marsh mosquito has been found as .far as 42 miles from Its breeding placo, he said, but the house mosquito never migrates over 600 feet, so that If you are bothered with' mosquitoes you can rest assured that thoy are raised in your own back yard or those of your neighbors.
Barrels, can, cesspools and other re¬ ceptacles, when left uncovered, «ye pro¬ lific breeding places of mosquitoes.
There are flve million feet of drain- agi^MtWhes on the marsh lands, which provide circulation, and prevent the standing waters from becoming breed, ing places. Mo.squitoes, he said, will not breed in salt water, until the water haa stood long enough to become brack¬ ish.
Mr. DeMott said there are thirteen kinds of mosquitoes, and he referred particularly to the gratifying results obtained In tho'eradication of tho mal¬ arial mosquito. When the commission first started work, ho said, there were 450 cases of malaria In the county. Tho number had decreased annually until last year not a single case was re¬ ported.

He stated that the customer placed n dollar on tho har, that Muro pocketetl tho sfimo after ho had been told to do so. Chief Hartman was able to get the glass before the customer had an opportunity of reaching it, and he swore that to the best of his knowledge and hollof, the liquid ho saw being served wns whisky.
Ho al.so stated that the proprietor emptied the glass behind the bar after ho had .set it down for a moment, thereby destroyng the o^idonce.
Tho only evidence seized in the raid was n case of twelve bottles of ver¬ mouth thai woio taken from the Ice oho.st, nnd a bottle of bitters found bo- hind the bar.
The contents of the bottle seized bo- liind tho bar were nlso spilled in order to destroy evidonoe, the chief declared. Chief Hartman tasted the liquid ^eing served l)ohlnd tho bar, which was In a vornpouth bottle, tho sjimo as the liquid that was seized, and he alao tasted the vormouth and claimed tho bar liquid was not the same, and that in his best judgment It was whiskey.
Ijiwyer Southard moved for dismissal on tho grfiund that no evidence had been Introduced to show that any alco¬ holic liquor had been .sold or was on the i)remises. Justice Johnson tfrnied the motion and held the defendant for the grand jury.
In the meantime an analysis will be made of the contents 'of tho vermouth nnd bitters bottles.
